Show and Tell Questions - Brakes
As part of the show and tell questions you could be asked the following about the cars braking systems.
Brake Lights
Q - Show me how you would check your brake lights are working properly, (if you need to switch the ignition on please do but don't start the engine) I can assist you if you require.
A - Turn the ignition on but don't start the engine apply the foot brake and ask the examiner to go out and check. (The examiner may offer to check before you ask them but don't worry about asking them to check it's part of their job)
Brakes
Q- Tell me how you would check your brakes are working properly before starting a journey
A- Explain that you would move off slowly applying the brakes. The brakes should be firm and not feel spongy or slack and the car should not pull to one side.
Anti Lock Brakes
Q - Tell me how you'd would know if there was a problem with your cars anti lock braking system (ABS)
A - If there was a problem with the ABS a warning light would show up on the dashboard.
Hand Brake
Q - Show/Explain how you would check you hand brake for excessive wear and that it wasn't at the end of it's natural life. Make sure you keep secure control of the car.
A - Putting you foot on the foot brake (securing the car) release the handbrake and then reapply, the hand brake should feel firm and hold the car still.
